Prostate Cancer Treatment in India

  • Prostate Cancer Treatment
Prostate cancer develops in the prostate gland, a small gland in men that produces seminal fluid. It is one of the most common cancers affecting men, particularly those over the age of 50.
In many cases, prostate cancer grows slowly and may not cause serious problems for many years. However, some types can grow aggressively and spread to other parts of the body if not treated early.
Common symptoms include difficulty urinating, weak urine flow, frequent urination especially at night, blood in urine or semen, pelvic discomfort, and sometimes bone pain in advanced stages.
Diagnosis usually begins with a prostate-specific antigen (PSA) blood test and a digital rectal examination (DRE). If abnormal results are found, further tests such as MRI scans and prostate biopsy may be performed to confirm the diagnosis.
Treatment options vary depending on the stage and aggressiveness of the cancer. In some cases where the cancer is slow-growing, doctors may recommend active surveillance, which involves regular monitoring without immediate treatment.
For localized prostate cancer, surgery called radical prostatectomy may be performed to remove the prostate gland. Radiation therapy is another common treatment option that uses high-energy rays to destroy cancer cells.
Hormone therapy is often used to reduce levels of male hormones that stimulate cancer growth. Chemotherapy may be recommended for advanced prostate cancer.
Modern treatment approaches also include targeted therapy and immunotherapy for certain patients.
With early detection and appropriate treatment, prostate cancer has a high survival rate, and many men continue to live long and healthy lives.
