Colorectal cancer is a type of cancer that begins in the colon or rectum, which are parts of the large intestine. It usually develops from small growths called polyps that form on the inner lining of the colon. Over time, some of these polyps may become cancerous.

Treatment for colorectal cancer depends on the stage of the disease. In early stages, surgery is usually the main treatment. The surgeon removes the cancerous portion of the colon along with nearby lymph nodes to prevent the spread of cancer.
Chemotherapy may be recommended after surgery to destroy any remaining cancer cells. In rectal cancer cases, radiation therapy may also be used to shrink tumors before surgery or to prevent recurrence.
Modern treatments may also include targeted therapy, which focuses on specific molecules involved in cancer growth, and immunotherapy, which helps the immune system recognize and attack cancer cells.
Lifestyle changes such as healthy diet, regular exercise, and routine screenings play an important role in preventing colorectal cancer and detecting it early.
With early diagnosis and appropriate treatment, colorectal cancer is highly treatable, and many patients achieve long-term survival and good quality of life.
